Elizabeth Arnold is a director in BRG’s Labor & Employment practice and an expert in studying the work activity employees perform in diverse job roles across a range of workplace environments.

Over the last two decades, Ms. Arnold has worked on over one hundred employment-related matters in both an advisory and expert capacity. She has led research studies at local and international organizations of various sizes, from small nonprofits to global digital retailers, and across industries including government, healthcare, retail, technology, transportation, and professional business services.

Ms. Arnold specializes in the development and execution of customized research methodologies that address complex employment compliance issues at individual worker, organization, city, state, federal, and international levels. Her engagements often include identifying tasks and responsibilities associated with different jobs and the contexts in which they are performed. In her studies, she employs approaches including time and motion observations, questionnaires, surveys, and interviews.

Ms. Arnold’s wage and hour engagements often involve evaluating meal and rest break compliance, job classification (Fair Labor Standards Act, state exemptions, independent contractor), joint employer, tip pooling/credits, and suitable seating. In addition, she studies employee “compensable time” activities, including the duration of health and security screenings, donning and doffing activity, computer boot-ups, walking, and driving. Her work has been used at multiple stages of active litigation, and she has provided expert testimony in state, federal, and international class action disputes. Additionally, clients leverage the results of her studies to shape or modify existing organizational practices and policies.
