David A. Kennedy joined a mock trial demonstration as a damages expert—mirroring a story inspired by The Local by Joey Hartstone—during the 2023 Eastern District of Texas’s Bench Bar Conference.

Introduced and facilitated by Professor James E. Wren (Baylor Law School), the mock trial scenario demonstrated to attendees, including attorneys and judges, how one might calculate the value of the life of a murdered federal judge. Mr. Kennedy served as a damages expert in the scenario, presenting alongside Brad Caldwell (Caldwell Cassady & Curry PC) and Kalpana Srinivasan (Susman Godfrey LLP) as counsel for the plaintiff. Ray Perryman (The Perryman Group) served as the defendant’s expert, with attorneys Ruffin Cordell (Fish & Richardson PC), Joe Mueller (WilmerHale LLP), Gil Gillam (Gillam Smith LLP), and Katie Albanese (Greenberg Taurig LLP) serving as defense counsel. Magistrate Judge Nicole Mitchell (US District Court, Eastern District of Texas) served as the presiding judge in the presentation.
