Brian Murphy brings thirty-five years of experience, including over twenty-three years as an operating executive with two leading global private equity firms.

He has been the primary operating executive in over twenty private equity investments, partnering with management and private equity deal teams to establish post-investment strategy, pursue performance improvement, and install strong governance. In these transformational efforts, he has extensive experience coaching and developing superior management teams.

Mr. Murphy’s experience with private equity investments spans all forms of deals, including equity growth, corporate carve-outs, sponsor buyouts, and public-to-private transactions. He has worked across a number of sectors, including consumer and retail, manufacturing and distribution, and healthcare. In addition to North America, Mr. Murphy has been based and worked extensively in Europe and Asia.

Mr. Murphy has significant experience working with C-suite executives and board members to assess and develop business growth plans, analyze and advise on investment decisions, execute profit- and cash-improvement plans, assess organizational structure and talent, realign reporting to better match core objectives, and establish rigorous business systems to ensure progress against long-term strategic transformation plans. He also has significant transaction experience through his work with portfolio companies, including add-on acquisitions, large merger integrations, refinancings, and investment exits. Further, Mr. Murphy has been involved in several distressed situations and has managed the overall restructuring process.

Before BRG, Mr. Murphy was an Executive Director in the Portfolio Support Group of the global private equity firm, Advent International, where he worked from 2012 through 2019. He joined Advent in the London office, spent four years working with the firm’s European portfolio, and had a key role as Advent built its European operating team. Mr. Murphy returned to the US in 2016 and worked with several of the firm’s North American investments across a number of sectors.

Prior to Advent, Mr. Murphy was an Operating Partner at Bain Capital. He spent fifteen years with the firm’s portfolio group in the US and Asia. He spent significant time with roughly a dozen investments, often serving on the portfolio company’s board. From 2008 through 2011, Mr. Murphy was based in Hong Kong and was responsible for developing Bain Capital’s Asia post-investment capability and building the operating team in Hong Kong, China, Japan, and India.

Before Bain Capital, Mr. Murphy co-founded and worked at the Merchant Banking practice of the Barents Group, a subsidiary of KPMG. Specifically, Mr. Murphy led the business’ efforts in Central Europe to provide transaction and restructuring advisory services while participating in several groundbreaking privatization transactions in the region.

Prior to Barents Group, Mr. Murphy spent six years at Bain & Company and was involved in numerous performance improvement and strategy projects.
