Michael Canale is a leader in BRG's Financial Institution Advisory practice. Before joining BRG, he was a director in the Banking, Insurance, and Capital Markets group of an international management consulting firm for five years. He previously worked in bankruptcy and restructuring for a specialty investment bank and was part of the executive team that led the wind-down for one of the largest mortgage bankruptcies in US history.
Mr. Canale has over ten years of financial services industry and consulting experience. He has expertise in the areas of operations, risk and compliance, data analytics, and process automation technology. He has worked with clients ranging from credit unions, REITs, regional and international banks, and leading private equity firms. His subject-matter expertise spans consumer finance (mortgage, auto, credit cards, student loans, and deposits), where he has worked on enforcement actions and remediation, strategic analysis, acquisition due diligence, organizational design, credit reporting, technology enablement, and portfolio asset management. His engagements have included experience with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and Department of Justice.
Mr. Canale focuses on assisting financial services companies in reshaping their business operations and risk and compliance functions. He leverages traditional advisory, outsourcing, technology solutions, and analytics to design innovative approaches that help reduce costs, increase productivity, and expand risk coverage. His expertise includes evaluating organizational design, drafting policies and procedures, developing and implementing key risk indicator dashboards, building automated data analytics solutions, standing up testing programs, and crisis management.
Mr. Canale is a trusted advisor for the business units, C-suite, and boards of directors. He brings a unique perspective, including a combination of business, operations, and compliance expertise, to help solve his clients’ toughest challenges and take decisive action. He has won awards and recognition for his work, including innovation challenges, leadership awards, and representing a prior firm in an ad campaign.
