Rob Shapiro specializes in advising on complex restructurings, transactions, operational turnarounds, and transformations. He is a leader in BRG’s healthcare vertical and is responsible for driving cross-functional delivery for the firm’s Corporate Finance clients in the space.

Mr. Shapiro has led numerous turnarounds, performance improvement mandates, business plan reviews, liquidity initiatives, and restructurings for sponsor-backed and public companies across an array of healthcare subsectors. His healthcare industry experience includes multisite physician practices, acute care, home health, behavioral health, medical devices, life sciences, and more.

Mr. Shapiro has extensive experience serving as an operational and restructuring advisor to sponsor-backed companies. He has supported private equity clients and management through complex transactions, carveouts, divestitures, and recapitalizations. In addition, he has engaged with sponsor-backed businesses on operational and finance process improvement initiatives, including cost takeout and working capital improvement initiatives.

In addition to working directly with sponsors, management teams, and boards of directors, Mr. Shapiro has worked on behalf of lenders in restructurings, assisting with business plan assessments, liquidity reviews, and deal strategy development and execution. He also brings significant experience in retail and consumer and the technology spaces.

Prior to joining BRG, Mr. Shapiro was a director in FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance/Restructuring practice. Before that, he worked in the restructuring group of Carl Marks, where he was engaged on a number of in-court and out-of-court transactions.

  • On behalf of a large public home health provider, led an operational performance improvement assessment and follow-on implementation work streams to realize savings benefits
  • Engaged by a private equity–owned multisite physician practice to assist in structuring and facilitating a liability management transaction
  • Advised the lenders to a national health system with acute care, behavioral health, and managed care through numerous amendments, extensions, and ultimately a full refinancing
  • Engaged by a private equity owned ambulatory surgical center roll up to assist in improved forecasting, liquidity planning, and cash conversion
  • Represented Guitar Center in its Chapter 11 restructuring, resulting in a 30-day fast-tracked Chapter 11, elimination of $800 million of debt, and new equity funding of $165 million
  • Served as CRO of RTW Retailwinds, an omni-retailer, in its Chapter 11 restructuring and successful 363 sale
  • Assisted a public prosthetic and orthotics manufacturer and services company, in its successful refinancing amid a significant accounting restatement
