Dr. Simone Kohnz is a competition economics expert with twenty years of experience advising clients across industries and jurisdictions. She specialises in cartel and information exchange cases and regularly acts as a testifying economic expert in private litigation proceedings.
Dr. Kohnz is a managing director in BRG’s Berlin office. She advises clients from a wide range of industries, in all fields of competition policy and across jurisdictions including Germany, Austria, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal.
In recent years, Dr. Kohnz has specialised in the quantification of damages in private litigation cases. She has advised clients and drafted expert witness reports in European, German, Austrian, Spanish and Portuguese cartel and information exchange cases across industries including trucks, cosmetics, retail banking, waste management, sugar, timber, banking cards, bumpers and turntable ladders, district heating, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), retailing and de-icing salt. She regularly testifies as an economic expert in private litigation court cases.
Dr. Kohnz also has extensive experience in merger proceedings and has advised on transactions including CRH/Buzzi, Strabag/Sitec, Miba/Zollern, Knorr/Bremse, H+H/Xella, Strabag/Lafarge, Imerys/Pará Pigmentos, Comcast/NBC Universal, Strabag/Cemex, Dr. Oetker/Schwan, TomTom/TeleAtlas and Rewe/Adeg. In addition, she regularly assists clients with merger feasibility studies. Her experience further includes regulatory and abuse of dominance cases in the telecommunications, sports, durable goods and FMCG, transport and pharmaceutical sectors.
Dr. Kohnz has been appointed as a court expert by a German regional court in an abuse of dominance case involving luxury cosmetics and is a generally sworn and court-certified expert before the Austrian cartel court. She has also trained European judges on damages quantification. Lexology Index has recognized her as a leading competition economist since 2018.
