John B. Davis, PhD is an economist at Berkeley Research Group, based in the firm’s San Francisco Bay Area office.

He primarily specializes in lawsuits involving patent damages. He focuses on the extent of damage disclosures required by federal courts and apportionments necessary to isolate the economic value of a patent(s) in suit. His areas of expertise include California’s Patent Local Rules, especially the extent of damage disclosure required at early stages of litigation. Dr. Davis develops damages theories that span both patent reasonable royalties and also lost profits, trademarks, and trade secrets depending on the intellectual property issues asserted in the cases.

Dr. Davis has also testified in class action discrimination and wage and hour matters, assisted in civil and criminal matters related to sub-prime banking failures as a result of underwriting practices, including commercial real estate (CRE) lending practices, as well as anti-trust matters.
