Intelligence That Works

BRG today announced that Dr. Sohan Dasgupta has joined as a managing director in the firm’s Global Trade & Compliance practice within the Economics, Disputes & Investigations community. His addition expands the practice’s capabilities and strengthens BRG’s ability to advise clients on foreign investment, trade, and related national security matters.

Dr. Dasgupta brings experience spanning government, private practice, and international economic policy. He advises organizations on complex cross-border regulatory and compliance matters, including foreign investment screening, sanctions, export controls, outbound investment, supply chain risk, and forced labor enforcement. He also has significant experience in international arbitration and high-stakes litigation.

“Sohan brings a rare combination of senior government experience, legal judgment, and deep knowledge of international trade and national security issues,” said Ray Kolls, leader of BRG’s Forensic Accounting & Investigations group. “His perspective will be highly valuable to clients navigating increasingly complex regulatory requirements and geopolitical risks.”

Before joining BRG, Dr. Dasgupta served as assistant secretary for Trade and Economic Security and deputy general counsel at the US Department of Homeland Security. He also led the bilateral US foreign investment agency Millennium Challenge Corporation, where he helped advance major international infrastructure, transportation, and energy initiatives with key US partners.

Earlier in his career as a partner at an Am Law 100 firm, Dr. Dasgupta handled litigation, trade, regulatory, and international arbitration matters. He has also addressed parliaments around the world on issues involving trade, investment, the rule of law, and national security.

“I am honored to join BRG,” said Dr. Dasgupta. “The firm’s distinctive combination of intellectual rigor, multidisciplinary expertise, and genuine client focus provides an exceptional platform to advise organizations on the increasingly complex intersection of trade, investment, and national security.”

Dr. Dasgupta earned his JD from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Order of the Coif), PhD from the University of Cambridge, MSc from the University of Oxford, and BA from Columbia University. He clerked on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and US District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
