Can Exchanges of Anonymized Disaggregated Data Facilitate Collusion?

They highlight the importance of proactive compliance strategies, including the use of data aggregation and anonymization to mitigate collusion risks.

As competition authorities ramp up enforcement—especially in data-driven industries—corporations face both heightened risks and new opportunities. The authors argue that while aggregated data exchanges generally are seen as safer under antitrust guidelines, disaggregated data can significantly increase the risk of collusion, even when anonymized. Anonymization alone may not be sufficient to prevent anticompetitive behavior, especially when firms use disaggregated data for monitoring purposes.
