Black, Hispanic, and Asian American/Pacific Islander MA Beneficiaries Receive More Primary Care and Less Potentially Avoidable Care Than Similar Beneficiaries in Traditional Medicare

April 30, 2025

Medicare Advantage (MA) enrollees who are Black, Hispanic, or Asian American/Pacific Islander (AA/PI) have higher rates of preventive health screenings and use of primary care services than similar enrollees in Traditional Medicare, and lower rates of potentially avoidable care in most areas that BRG researched. Using Medicare claims and MA encounter data, BRG professionals also found that enrollees in special needs plans often had the greatest advantage over similar enrollees in Traditional Medicare.
