HCCA 2023 Healthcare Enforcement Compliance Conference

Tom O’Neil moderated “Evaluation of Compliance Program Effectiveness: DOJ, OIG & Industry Benchmarks.” The panel included Lauren Kootman (Assistant Chief of Corporate Enforcement, Compliance & Policy Unit in the Fraud Section, Criminal Division of US Department of Justice) and James Sheehan (Director of New York State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau).

The session focused on each government representative’s perspectives on key controls and functions of a compliance and ethics program. Immediately following the discussion, Rob DeConti (Chief Counsel to Inspector General, Office of Inspector General (OIG) for US Department of Health and Human Services) provided a keynote address and announced issuance of the newest OIG guidance.
