Sarah Binkowski

Associate Director

Sarah Binkowski is an expert in transportation engineering and planning, including safety work, environmental impact studies, work zones, innovative contracting methods, transit, and roadway design.

Sarah Binkowski, PE, PTOE, is an associate director at BRG. She has over twenty-five years of experience as a senior project manager and is an expert in transportation engineering and planning. Her project experience includes:

  • design-build, design-bid-build, and construction management/general contractor
  • roadway, transit, and structural design projects
  • design assistance during construction
  • National Environmental Policy Act studies for roadway/transit projects, including environmental impact studies, environmental assessments, and categorical exclusions
  • traffic engineering, including corridor studies, traffic and safety studies, traffic operations, signal optimization, and complete streets
  • intelligent transportation systems (ITS), including managed lane analysis, connected and automated vehicle analysis, and analysis and location of ITS devices
  • maintenance of traffic and roadway closure scenarios, including construction staging evaluations
  • value engineering studies and development of access management plans
  • city and county transportation plans and safety action plans
  • travel demand model development/application, including future-year traffic and transit projections

Ms. Binkowski manages projects for a diverse range of clients, including departments of transportation, counties, road commissions, municipalities, metropolitan planning organizations, and private-sector clients.

Ms. Binkowski is a Professional Engineer and a Professional Transportation Operations Engineer through the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). She is a member of ITE and past president of the Women’s Transportation Seminar Michigan Chapter. She is a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) AEP15 Transportation Planning Analysis and Applications Committee and a previous member of TRB’s AKD10 Performance Effects of Geometric Design Committee.

Ms. Binkowski has a BS and MS in civil engineering from Michigan State University, where she worked on a variety of research projects. She mentors young women in engineering and planning, helping them grow and succeed in their chosen fields.
