
Alexis Walckiers
Dr. Alexis Walckiers is a competition economist specialising in merger control, abuse of dominance, damages and State aid matters at the Belgian and EU levels.
Dr. Alexis Walckiers is a managing director in BRG’s Brussels office. He advises clients across industries including retail, telecommunications, energy, health services, financial services, car distribution, logistics and postal services. He combines experience in competition enforcement, academia and economic consulting, including serving as chief economist and board member of the Belgian Competition Authority. He has extensive experience applying economic analysis in competition proceedings and regulatory decision-making.
Before joining E.CA Economics, Dr. Walckiers served as chief economist of the Belgian Competition Authority from 2010 to 2020. In this role, he sat on the board of the authority and advised investigation teams and competition colleges on the use of economic tools in competition cases. He also represented the authority in international fora and advised the Belgian Minister of Economic Affairs on competition matters. Previously, Dr. Walckiers worked for an economics consultancy.
Dr. Walckiers holds degrees in philosophy and physics and a doctorate in economics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, where he teaches microeconomics. His academic research has been published in competition and economics journals including the Journal of the European Economic Association.
Dr. Walckiers is active in professional associations. He serves as president of the Association pour l’Etude du Droit de la Concurrence (AEDC-VSMR) and is a past president of the Association of Competition Economics. He is a member of the scientific committee of Concurrences.
Dr. Walckiers is fluent in French, Dutch and English.
