What Are Hospitals' Obligations for Sharing Cybersecurity Info with the FBI?

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is making an effort to expand real-time coordination between health systems and law enforcement agencies in an effort to stop cyberattacks.

But when it comes to sharing threat intelligence data, such as indicators of compromise, healthcare organizations need to keep in mind special considerations to avoid Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act or state privacy law violations and regulatory and liability risk. Many provider organizations don’t have processes and procedures in place to govern how that is done, and too many still need frameworks that outline how they share that information.
