Seamus O’Doherty is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor, Chartered Builder, adjudicator, arbitrator and accredited mediator with over thirty years’ experience in commercial and project management.

He has worked for engineering and construction companies, consultancies and client organisations on projects in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, the United States, India, China, the Middle East and others.

Mr. O’Doherty’s experience includes cost planning, estimating, procurement, contract claims (typically related to delay and disruption, loss and expense and final accounts) and commercial management on a broad range of projects, including rail, metro, power, steel plants, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, airport, bridge, commercial, residential, civil, educational, health and industrial. He has worked with standard and bespoke main contracts and subcontracts including FIDIC, NEC, JCT and ICE.

In addition to his experience as a construction professional, Mr. O’Doherty has been involved in a wide range of dispute matters and has provided independent quantum expert evidence in dispute resolution fora, including testifying in international arbitration. He has also assisted clients and legal teams with litigious matters in the formulation of strategy, preparation of documents and case presentation in adjudication, arbitration and litigation.

Mr. O’Doherty is regularly appointed as an independent quantum expert in construction and engineering disputes. He is also a dispute resolver and panel member of the RICS President’s Panel of Construction Adjudicators, UK Adjudicators and CIArb Business Arbitration Scheme and is a CEDR ADR Official. Mr. O’Doherty has been appointed as the adjudicator or arbitrator in disputes involving construction and engineering, aviation and the surveying activities of RICS member firms. He is a liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Arbitrators.

Mr. O’Doherty is ranked in the Who’s Who Legal 2023 guide as a Global Elite Thought Leader in both the Construction Expert Witnesses and Experts – Construction – Quantum Delay & Technical categories; and is Recommended in the Arbitration category in the 2024 guide.
