Ruthann Russo

Managing Director

Ruthann Russo has over 20 years of experience serving healthcare clients. She develops and provides population health, integrative health, informatics strategies, and consulting services for healthcare systems. She has led consulting engagements for leading academic medical centers and health systems, including those with a focus on change management and transformation, behavioral health strategies, and evidence-based integrative health programs for chronic conditions and patient self-care. In her population health work with organizations, she has conducted health consumer–driven research, patient focus groups, mind-body skills groups, and visioning retreats for management teams.

Dr. Russo and her teams begin each project with customized patient, population, and health system data analytics; track key metrics throughout the implementation process; and measure return on investment and specific project benefits, including cost savings, decreased length of stay, improved patient satisfaction, improved pain scores, and decreased pharmacy costs. She has also created and implemented new CDI and compliance functions in academic medical centers and their faculty practices. These new operating units were system-wide, aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance for financial reimbursement, accurate clinical documentation and coding, and accurate quality indicators.

Dr. Russo has served several health systems—including Beth Israel and NYU Langone Medical Centers, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and The Lincoln Recovery Center—as an integrative health practitioner and acupuncturist in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. She was the director of an integrative health and wellness practice and created a workplace wellness program for Intel Corporation. She is a faculty member in Saybrook University's College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences, where she teaches graduate-level courses in health informatics. Early in her career, she was a healthcare attorney and founder and CEO of two health services and software firms, both acquired by publicly traded firms. She is the author of 11 books, including Seven Steps to Your Best Possible Healthcare: The Essential Guide for Crafting Your Personal Health Plan and The Compelling Case for Clinical Documentation.

Dr. Russo is a licensed, board-certified acupuncturist, certified integrative healthcare administrator, certified health coach, mind-body skills instructor, and yoga teacher.
