Rich Whitlock is a director in BRG Corporate Finance and specializes in resolving difficult operational and financial issues, especially with highly capital- and process-intensive companies. He has more than fifteen years of experience leading operational transformations, as well as debt and equity restructuring transactions. He recently served as chief restructuring officer (CRO) of a Navy-contracted “shipbreaking” company, where he led the company through a turbulent bankruptcy and sale process in a heavily regulated environment. He also served in a senior role for a leading renewable energy company to lead a transition of its core Operations and Maintenance activities. He led the turnaround and budgeting functions of a PE-owned aerospace precision machining company. He also led the cash management, business planning, business intelligence, and inventory reduction aspects of a large diversified plastics manufacturer and established processes essential to the company’s successful turnaround.
Before joining BRG, Mr. Whitlock was a lead director in the Turnaround and Restructuring practice of an international management consulting firm, where he led and participated in a wide variety of operational turnarounds and financial restructurings over the course of ten years. Before that, he led the Portfolio Company Operations practice in the Private Equity group of an alternative investment management firm, where he developed and implemented accelerated turnaround plans for portfolio companies with an emphasis on minimizing cash needs. He is also a former commissioned officer in the US Navy’s nuclear submarine force, where his coordination, leadership, and execution skills were instrumental in the ship completing its missions with distinction as well as completing repair periods ahead of schedule.
Mr. Whitlock is a Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP) and a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA). He is a qualified Engineer Officer of an S6G nuclear submarine power plant and is also a certified M1A1 tank commander.
