Matthew J.M. Tan is a Managing Director within BRG’s Energy practice based in Singapore. Formerly executive vice president of Galway Group, he provides expertise in asset valuation, petroleum economics, and decision strategy. He has worked for more than twenty years in the international oil and gas sector.
Before joining Galway Group in 2014, Mr. Tan worked at several large global oil and gas companies and a top oil and gas information and analytics company. He has worked in projects spanning the full LNG supply chain in Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria, Australia, and China. His role has been to develop commercial insights and drive strategy in support of key phase-gate decisions, including project FID, FEED, and feasibility studies.
Since 2014, Mr. Tan has led engagements in gas/LNG advisory, covering upstream block assessment and valuation, investor’s detailed due diligence, bid evaluation/strategies for equity acquisition in LNG supply/export projects, LNG SPA price renegotiations, LNG procurement and import management, LNG trading strategy (asset-backed optionality) construction, FSRU terminal feasibility assessments, FSRU market-entry strategy evaluation, LNG hub feasibility assessment, floating LNG break-bulk feasibility (optimisation) assessment, midstream gas processing and fractionation business evaluation, and wholesale gas competitive strategy evaluation.
With a focus on commercial execution, Mr. Tan has consulted on project commercial structures and positioning, project risk allocation and mitigation, and development of key project agreements.
Mr. Tan holds a BBA and master of finance from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia.
