John Wagner is a director in BRG’s Healthcare Performance Improvement practice and specializes in value-based healthcare transformation, high-performance networks (HPN), and portfolio optimization. He has over twenty years of healthcare payer and provider experience focusing on strategic leadership, value-based healthcare, population health, network development and management, market development, and healthcare strategy. He also maintains deep industry knowledge on payment programs and quality-based reimbursement efforts, in addition to advanced payment models.
Before joining BRG, Mr. Wagner worked for a national accountable care organization (ACO) enablement company, where he led a wholly owned Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) ACO and had accountability for development, implementation, and expansion of a clinical portfolio. His roles and responsibilities included:
- Care services vertical, including clinical outreach to close care gaps
- Medicare and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services subject-matter expert
- Creating and operationalizing product-line development and management process
- Assessing and approving vendor partners to add to portfolio of solutions and key mergers and acquisitions functions
Mr. Wagner was a key member of an innovative leadership team within a large pharmacy retailer that established and operated three MSSP ACOs and other strategic relationships between health systems and the retailer, with a focus on managing populations at risk.
Mr. Wagner also maintains extensive payer experience focuses on all lines of business and consumer segments (commercial, government, and reform), with expertise in network development and operations, product development and management, analytics, distribution, marketing, operations, and organizational and tactical strategy.
Mr. Wagner has a strong commitment to diversity and working causes related to people with disabilities through serving on several boards. He was recognized with the 2014 Disabilities Matters National Disabilities Champion award and the 2014 Florida Diversity Council’s Multicultural Leader award, and was named in the Florida Times-Union’s 2013 “Ten Who Make a Difference.” He is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives and the University of North Florida (UNF) College of Health Alumni Association.
