Ralph Kreider is an associate director at Berkeley Research Group (BRG), where he assists architecture, engineering, construction, and owner organizations to better utilize technology to optimize their processes and procedures.
He helps organizations develop strategies for technology adoption, advance the use of new and existing technologies, and regularly review implementation progress. His wide-ranging knowledge of construction technologies allows him to develop custom approaches to address each client’s specific needs.
Previously, Dr. Kreider was a project solutions manager at a general contractor. He oversaw the firm’s Information Technology department and virtual design and construction/building information modeling (BIM) efforts. He worked toward optimizing and standardizing the firm’s use of construction technologies. He led the migration from a server-based environment to a cloud-based, Office 365/Teams–focused environment, established a cybersecurity program, advanced the firm’s use of Procore construction software, created a data analytics culture, implemented a new customer relationship management system, and led a major upgrade of the firm’s enterprise resource planning (ERP)/human resource information system (HRIS). He focused on supporting and promoting the consistent use of processes and software systems across the company.
Before that, Dr. Kreider worked for a construction management agency as a director of digital facilities. He assisted organizations to develop BIM guidelines and standards, review BIM implementation and adoption progress, and train for the successful adoption of BIM. In addition to supporting his clients, he led the firm’s digital transformation efforts from developing strategy through implementation and training.
Dr. Kreider received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architectural engineering and his PhD from Penn State University. While completing his PhD focused on BIM, he contributed to the BIM Project Execution Planning Guide and BIM Planning Guide for Facility Owners, both of which were adopted into the National BIM Standard. While at Penn State, he assisted the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to establish their BIM guidelines and standards, which are now required for all USACE projects.
At BRG, Dr. Kreider continues to utilize tools such as Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, Dynamics, PowerBI, Procore, eBuilder, Revizto, Revit, Navisworks, along with other construction technologies to help his clients simplify construction delivery. He is passionate in establishing digitalization as a shared goal for the construction industry.
