BRG Adds to Fully Integrated Investigations and Intelligence Team in London with Senior Hires
BRG has confirmed Sarah Keeling, a leading strategic and geopolitical intelligence expert, as the latest addition to its growing Global Investigations + Strategic Intelligence practice, based in London.
Ms Keeling and Brian Stapleton, who joined BRG earlier this year, will co-lead the investigations and intelligence-focused practice in Europe–Middle East–Asia, which is unique in its integration of data analytics, forensic investigations and strategic intelligence at the highest levels. The group’s dedicated senior directors are supported by a team of professionals and a state-of-the-art forensics lab in London.
A former senior British government official with 23 years of experience in national security and strategic geopolitical issues in the United Kingdom and overseas, Ms Keeling has advised clients on strategies for arbitration and litigation, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, Iran and Sub-Saharan Africa. She has led complex corporate and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations and supported disputes around political, regulatory and integrity issues. She supports global corporates entering high-risk new and emerging markets, providing strategic, survival-level intelligence and support in assessing and managing risk to their operations.
Ms Keeling has worked across sectors including infrastructure, engineering, energy and technology, and private equity. She also acts as a risk and security adviser to ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family offices. In addition, she has specialised in piracy and maritime security issues. She is a Council member of the RSMF, the leading risk and security forum for FTSE100 in the UK.
After leaving government service, Ms Keeling joined a private security firm. As a managing director, she led the advisory business and built and managed a portfolio of clients in the extractives, fast-moving consumer goods, financial services, infrastructure and real estate sectors, as well as legal firms conducting multijurisdictional arbitration cases. She then moved to a professional services firm, where she built an EMEA advisory business with multinational teams conducting complex multijurisdictional investigations including FCPA, asset tracing and recovery, and litigation support for international arbitration and disputes.
Mr Stapleton joined BRG as a Managing Director in March. Having initially trained as a barrister and worked in finance, he has amassed 20 years of experience in the investigations industry. He also advises a number of high-net-worth clients and has managed high-profile investigations for multinational corporations, governments and individuals.
Before joining BRG, Mr Stapleton founded Tyrian Partners LLP, an independent financial investigations and forensic accounting firm based in London, which he sold to Stroz Friedberg Inc. He previously spent 15 years at global corporate investigations and risk consulting firm, where he ran the European Business Intelligence practice, cofounded the worldwide Financial Investigations practice and ultimately led the EMEA business.
“Our ambition to build a fully integrated global practice has been realised through the appointment of Sarah and Brian as our EMEA leaders”, said Allen D. Applbaum, the Global Leader of BRG’s Global Investigations + Strategic Intelligence practice. “I have personally worked closely with both Sarah and Brian in the past, and I am thrilled that they have chosen BRG and our Global Investigations practice as their new home—their careers have been truly extraordinary. Our team of multidisciplinary experts together provides financial investigation, data analytics and geopolitical expertise, combined with an incredible network, to give our clients the leading edge in mitigating risks and devising strategies for sustainable and competitive businesses”.
Daniel Ryan, Managing Director and leader of BRG’s London office, said: “Adding to our forensic investigations capability with sophisticated specialist investigation, human-source intelligence and strategic security expertise sets BRG apart from other firms that tend to specialise in only one area. The combination of our skills and our ability to bring the best people together is a real asset for our clients”.
