BRG Further Expands Its Disputes and International Arbitration Footprint in Asia–Pacific with Two Senior Hires
Dual hires a direct response to growing market needs requiring top-tier expertise coupled with essential local knowledge and native-language skills.
BRG has appointed Terence Mark and Keming Liang as a managing director and a director respectively in its Asia–Pacific (APAC) Disputes and International Arbitration practice, as the firm continues to build on its market-leading economic and financial consulting offering in the region.
A veteran finance professional, Mr. Mark has spent a significant portion of his 40-year career building banking businesses in the US and Asia, and a near equal portion in the highly specialized position of managing orderly wind-downs of regulated businesses with large balance sheets, in difficult regulatory environments, dealing with complex litigation, corporate governance and sensitive local human resources issues. As part of these assignments, he has given evidence by deposition on a number of occasions. He will be based in BRG’s Tokyo office.
Mr. Mark has deep expertise and experience in credit, securities, loans, derivatives, interest rate/FX, structured products, portfolio management and NPLs/workouts. He has managed through multiple credit cycles and has knowledge of corporate and structured credit, aviation finance, asset-backed securities, real estate and film finance.
Joining Mr. Mark will be Mr. Liang, a native Mandarin speaker from the People’s Republic of China. Mr. Liang will split time between BRG’s Los Angeles and Beijing offices and adds further depth to the Disputes and International Arbitration practice in Greater China, where a growing number of clients are located. Mr. Liang will work closely with BRG’s regional headquarters in Hong Kong and the firm’s Singapore office.
Before joining BRG, Mr. Liang worked for a leading economic consulting firm, where he honed his skills in practice areas including business and asset valuation, intellectual property, corporate finance and damages assessment.
Commenting on the dual appointments, Mustafa Hadi, head of BRG’s Disputes and International Arbitration practice in APAC and co-leader of BRG’s APAC region, said: “Terence and Keming’s profiles align directly with our strategic focus areas in Asia, and we are delighted to welcome them to our rapidly expanding team”.
“Over the past year, we have seen increasing demand for our services in the APAC region, including in areas such as financial services and M&A/private equity disputes”, Mr. Hadi added. “Our recent appointments demonstrate our unwavering commitment to the region, and we will be announcing further senior appointments soon”.
“I am excited to be able to contribute to such an experienced team and look forward to working closely with Mustafa and the rest of BRG’s APAC team to help drive the continued growth of our Asia–Pacific Disputes and International Arbitration practice”, commented Mr. Mark.
“With six offices across the APAC region and the ability to assemble broader teams with deep industry and technical expertise from its global offices, BRG is uniquely placed to help clients solve their most complex and challenging issues”, added Mr. Liang.
