Mark Williams chaired a panel on "Regulation and Investment in Telecoms: Back to the Future or Brave New World?," the first of this year’s Beesley lectures. BRG was a sponsor.

The debate around achieving the twin aims of promoting both competition and investment has waged for over twenty years and looks set to continue as the UK moves into a full-fibre world. Panelists topics including challenges for telecoms firms of investing in full-fibre networks, including the need for a stable regulatory regime; the need for firms to understand customers to deliver “outcomes, not outputs”; a “co-creation” mode to establish the appropriate regulatory regime for the future; delivering full-fibre to parts of the UK; and Ofcom’s future regulation, with deregulation where there is sufficient infrastructure competition.
