Implementing the Lean Management System to Influence Unfinished Nursing Care

Nursing staff provide care in complex settings with conflicting priorities. Nurse leaders must assist staff in understanding adverse effects of unfinished nursing care (UNC), involve them in the improvement process, and create standardized work that increases patient care quality and safety. Examples of UNC include failing to give medications, complete patient assessments, or assist patients with activities of daily living.
