BRG Further Expands European Economic Regulation Practice with Latest Senior Hire
BRG today announces the appointment of Adam Mantzos as a London-based Managing Director in the firm’s growing European Economic Regulation practice.
Mantzos has over 25 years of experience in economic regulation and competition matters across a wide range of industries, advising regulated companies, their regulators, customers and competitors. He has worked closely with major players in the energy, water, rail, postal and telecoms industries and has advised governments on regulatory and structural reform within these sectors. Before joining BRG, he was a partner at a Big Five accounting firm, after which he spent 17 years as an independent consultant. He brings extensive experience in supporting, influencing and challenging regulatory decisions on price controls, network access, cost allocation, cost modelling, universal service issues, excessive pricing and margin squeeze.
In addition to economic regulation, Mantzos has experience in working with commercial disputes, damages quantification, valuation and fraud investigation. He has provided written and oral expert evidence in both support and defence of appeals on price-control matters.
The appointment is the latest in a series of senior posts created by BRG to establish and lead a cross-industry competition policy and regulation practice in Europe. Colm Gibson joined the firm at the beginning of the year as a Managing Director focused on economic and financial regulation in the water and utilities sectors, among others. Gibson and Mantzos join Mark Williams and Neil Cornelius, BRG London-based Managing Directors focused on telecommunications, media and technology, and energy sectors, respectively. The firm has also built a supporting team with specialist skills in the space.
Commenting on the announcement, Daniel Ryan, head of BRG’s London office, said, “We are delighted to welcome Adam and to be further investing in this critical practice for the firm with a hire of his calibre. With almost three decades of experience in economic regulation and competition matters, Adam joins at a time when clients across multiple industries have increasing and urgent need to understand the challenges they face both now and in a number of potential future scenarios.”
Commenting on his appointment, Mantzos said, “I’m delighted to be joining BRG at a time when the market and the firm are placing even greater importance on deep expertise in my field. Having worked with several of my BRG colleagues in previous organisations, I am excited by the quality and experience of this group and our ability to advise BRG’s diverse clients in a wide range of areas, including immediate needs such as price controls and cost allocation, along with longer-term strategy.”
