BRG Appoints Regulatory Expert to Firm’s European Economic Regulation Practice
BRG has announced the appointment of Colm Gibson as a London-based managing director in the firm’s European Economic Regulation practice.
Gibson has over thirty years of experience in regulated industries. He has led commercial, price control, and other negotiations with regulatory and government bodies and companies across a wide range of market sectors in the UK and Europe, including water and wastewater, energy (especially the gas sector), and broadcasting.
Gibson has worked in senior regulatory, strategy, competition, and compliance roles in both the public and private sectors. Most recently, he was a member of the Executive Leadership Group and head of Economic Regulation at Thames Water.
Gibson is an expert on regulation and competition matters, including price controls, tariffs, and market design. He also specialises in assisting companies to prepare to challenge regulatory decisions, and has worked on a number of successful price control appeals in the UK gas and water sectors.
Gibson has provided expert advice in a range of international pricing arbitrations and disputes (covering nine energy import contracts between companies in a total of five European states). He has also written and contributed to number of books and other publications, including on the role of experts in price review arbitrations and a chapter on the economic regulation of water and wastewater in the Encyclopaedia of Law and Economics.
