Mónica MacGregor and BRG’s Washington, DC, office hosted “An Evening with Judge Ricardo Urbina.” Judge Urbina has more than forty-six years of experience as a lawyer and judge. In 1981, he became the first Latino ever appointed to the bench in Washington, DC. Between 1981 and 1994, he sat as a judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, including a stint from 1985 to 1988 as the chief presiding judge of the court’s Family Division. In 1994, Judge Urbina was nominated by President Bill Clinton to sit on the US District Court for the District of Columbia, a post he held until 2012. In his eighteen years as a US District Court judge, Judge Urbina issued more than 1,000 memorandum opinions. He garnered distinction for his handling of the complex civil calendar, one of the court’s most demanding assignments.
