H. James Koehler

James Koehler is a senior member of BRG’s energy practice and analyzes markets, financing, and risk for domestic and global lenders, project developers, and investors. 

Mr. Koehler has provided strategic advice and guidance to institutional investors involving issues across the energy value chain, including utilities and power generation, cleantech integration, oil and gas production, LNG, transportation, biofuels, efficiency, and carbon regulation. Before joining BRG, he served as a senior advisor in the US Senate and led the energy research practice at a boutique sell-side firm.

Mr. Koehler acts in multiple positions of professional leadership, including as professor of practice at Georgetown University, non-resident senior fellow on renewable energy finance for the US Department of State, and immediate past president and board member of the US Association for Energy Economics, National Capital Area Chapter (NCAC-USAEE). He has been featured in major media outlets and spoken at finance, trade, and university conferences in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Koehler also served as a graduate assistant to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and is an avid fly-fisherman.
