Network Adequacy in a Nutshell

Market Forces Driving Change


Health plans are creating new and more complex provider networks in an effort to increase quality and reduce costs. These new networks, such as narrow or tiered networks, are receiving increased scrutiny by regulators at both the federal and state levels. A key issue is whether these provider networks are adequate to address the health needs of health plan members.

Brian Hoyt presented on this important topic at this year’s Blue National Summit, which is the premier Blue Cross Blue Shield conference of the year. In anticipation of the Summit, he put together a three-part Web series entitled “Network Adequacy in a Nutshell” to provide a brief overview of network adequacy.
